I can’t make it on my own
United States citizens should depend on their government for safe-keeping from foreign and domestic threats. That includes attacks from foreign forces, illegal border crossings, illegal drugs etc. I depend on my government for safety in that regard. Today’s government also controls our food and drug supplies which I think is very adequate and necessary. After all, who wants to worry if the next hot dog they eat is gonna kill them – I don’t. The government also controls our educational system to a large extend. Now we get into some grey-areas. Public schools versus private schools. Education is very important to me and I agree that access to free education as well as affordable private schools is essential to every country’s success but improvements are needed, especially in our public schools. But the actual point I am getting to is this – If you are a healthy adult citizen of the United States of America, is there any reason you should have to ask the government for anything else. What is it that makes people get up in the morning and say “I can’t make it on my own” or “I can’t survive unless the government helps me out”? Of course these are just made-up phrases but I am trying to illustrate the mindset of some US-citizens. A large number of American citizens believe that the role of government is to provide for them and their families and that the only responsibility for the citizen is to ask for that help. Does this sound familiar “ASK NOT WHAT YOUR COUNTRY CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY”? What it shows me is, that people with that mindset have completely lost their sense of pride and self-worth as well as their belief in their own abilities. Wake up ! This is America! You are a US Citizen! You CAN make it! Be proud! Asking the government for help should be your last option and always temporary. You are not living YOUR life if you depend on the government for your daily needs. You have given up on being independent and are now relying on whatever scraps the government throughs your way. That is not the life of a US citizen. In the simplest of terms: If you depend on the government you will NOT be independent and if you are NOT independent you are NOT free. Being independent and free is the key to personal happiness. It’s the basis of this country and the reason so many people still come here. So ask yourself this question – Are you truely free?
